Feature: ProntoQCS provides the manufacturer the ability to trace a finished good back through the manufacturing process. A Serial Number (S/N) or batch number can be assigned to an item/items for tracing purposes. Items and batches can be grouped as they flow through various operations throughout the plant. ProntoQCS also allows shop-floor reporting to be performed on an item/items as it travels from operation to operation. The order of processing at an operation can be tracked as well. To fully understand the features included in this module, please refer to the ProntoQCS Material Geneology feature.
Benefits: ProntoQCS facilitates the localization of a problem with the potential to identify the source and/or a specific piece. The user has the ability to identify the source of the problem and the subsequent problem group, resulting in the localization of the problem to specific items or batches.
Situation: Consider the example of Tyson Foods, Inc., the nations leader in the production of poultry products. Tysons vertically-integrated chicken processing (where they control the product from the egg to your plate) assures them the top-quality raw materials needed to satisfy a demanding poultry market. With 83 plants in 20 states producing a variety of products ranging from Cornish game hens to boneless, skinless breasts, and from chicken patties to full dinners, Tyson needs to ensure a top-quality product. In the unlikely event that Tyson should discover a chicken product has been contaminated, they could locate the source of the problem and limit the number of products recalled to lots that were grouped together through the problem source.
