Quality Control: solution for the creation of custom specifications

ProntoQCS allows the creation of custom specification(s). A specification, as a controlled document, describes the attributes of a product and what the attributes should be, in order to be considered within the specification. The specifications are built dynamically from the attributes entered by the user during setup. They are saved in the QCS database with linkages to documents, if the documents are stored electronically. The user controls a glossary of terms and attributes that make up a spec. They also control the approval or disapproval of a spec and are able to directly link electronically-stored documents to specs or identify the storage location of documents if not stored electronically. A common format of specifications enables a company to identify and consolidate similar information.

Consolidated specifications reduce specification maintenance and retrieval costs. Specifications can also reduce procurement and manufacturing costs when integrated into your enterprise package. Consistent and easily retrievable specification information lowers the risk of miscommunication within the supply chain. Specifications provide shared data for integration or retrieval by other corporate systems. The system has been built to store information in the way that you store information. Specifications can be set up how you want them set up without programming modifications.

Situation: Campbell Soup Company, founded in 1869, has become one of the most recognized businesses in the world and serves as a symbol of America. It began when a fruit merchant named Joseph Campbell and an icebox manufacturer named Abraham Anderson shook hands in Camden, New Jersey, to form a business that has brought the best foods to your table for over 125 years. Today, Campbell products are sold in 120 countries around the globe stretching to China, Australia, Argentina, and beyond. While many of the products Americans know are offered internationally, regional varieties like Watercress and Duck Gizzard Soup in China and a Cream of Chili Poblano soup in Mexico, have been introduced to respond to cultural differences. Each year, nearly 90 percent of American households purchase Campbell's soups and on average, consumers stock eleven cans of Campbell's Soup in their pantries at all times. In fact, it is also the number one food item sold in grocery stores. In the U.S., one out of every ten homemade dinners is made with a can of Red and White soup.

To maintain the quality and flavor so many have come to enjoy, Campbell's soup is manufactured to precise specifications for each of their individual food products. Specifications can include the product recipe or list of ingredients; the manufacturing process or how the product is prepared; and packaging instructions on canning, labeling, boxing and storage requirements. A variety of attributes entered by the manufacturer into the Campbell's database, facilitate production of a variety of products keeping costs down, lowering risk of error and offering flexibility.
